Deutsche Post Replaces DHL Head After Cutting U.S. Forecast

By Christian Baumgaertel

Nov. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Deutsche Post AG, Europe's biggest postal service, replaced the head of its DHL division after it had to cut its U.S. forecast.

The company said Uwe Doerken, head of DHL, will be replaced by John Mullen on the company management board. Mullen, 49, will head DHL Express Americas, Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets, according to the statement sent by fax. His term runs until 2008.

Deutsche Post said in September it will post a wider-than- expected loss in the U.S. as it spends more to win market share from United Parcel Service Inc. and FedEx Corp. in the world's largest delivery market.

The 2004 loss at the U.S. operations may be as much as 500 million euros ($648 million), or 67 percent more than initially expected. The Bonn-based company forecast it won't break even in the U.S. until 2006, a year later than expected.

Deutsche Post today said it extended the term of Chief Executive Officer Klaus Zumwinkel by four years until November 2008. The term of Hans-Dieter Petram, board member in charge of the mail business, was extended until 2007, Deutsche Post said.
