Obama Announces Geithner for Treasury, Summers for White House

By Kim Chipman and Catherine Dodge

Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) -- President-elect Barack Obama said he will nominate New York Federal Reserve Bank President Timothy Geithner as Treasury secretary and has picked former Treasury chief Lawrence Summers to be his White House economic director.

In a statement, Obama also named Christina Romer to head the Council of Economic Advisers, and Melody Barnes and Heather Higginbottom to serve as director and deputy director of the Domestic Policy Council.

This weekend he said he wanted his team to put together an economic-stimulus package that would create or save 2.5 million jobs over two years as he seeks to cut taxes for the middle class and rebuild the country’s infrastructure.
