Aug. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said federal authorities are assisting lawmakers probing allegations of corruption within the ruling Workers' Party and the government.
``From the part of the federal government, we are conducting the investigations that are possible to conduct,'' Lula said in a morning radio address. ``We are facilitating the congressional inquiry committee's job in whatever is pertinent to the government.''
Lower house deputy Roberto Jefferson testified to congress on June 14 that Lula's ruling Workers' Party paid cash bribes to lawmakers to win support for legislation proposed by the government. The party has denied the allegations in statements.
Lula, 59, said that whoever is found guilty should pay for what they've done.
``Regardless of who they are, they have to pay.''
