Kansai Electric Closes Takahama No. 2 Reactor for Safety Checks

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Kansai Electric Power Co., Japan's second-biggest utility, will close its Takahama No. 2 nuclear reactor to conduct scheduled safety inspections.
Kansai Electric plans to shut the 826-megawatt reactor tomorrow for about three months, company spokesman Kimihito Kawabata said in a telephone interview today.
The Osaka-based utility has four nuclear reactors at Takahama, located in the central Japanese prefecture of Fukui, with total generating capacity of 3,392 megawatts.
