Fifth Annual Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUB Golf Tournament in Full Swing

Annual Event Raised more than $5 million for Children in its First Four Years

ORLANDO, Fla., May 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will host the Fifth Annual Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUB Golf Tournament to benefit Give Kids The World Village (GKTW) on May 23-24 at Orange Lake Country Club.

Last year's tournament resulted in the contribution of the single largest one-time donation GKTW has ever received, at nearly $2 million. In its first four years, the tournament has raised more than $5 million. Donated proceeds will allow GKTW to continue providing cost-free, fantasy vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses, and their families wishing to visit Central Florida's attractions. They will also assist GKTW with its ongoing phased expansion project.

"Give Kids The World has a very important mission that thousands of Wal- Mart associates support year-round," said Ronny Hayes, Wal-Mart regional vice president and general manager. "Supporting Give Kids The World and improving the lives of young people is another example of how the company lives its 'store of the community' mission."

Bake sales, hot dog carts and other fundraising efforts are conducted year-round by individual Wal-Mart stores and SAM'S CLUBS to qualify for inclusion in the golf tournament. The Wal-Mart Foundation matches the first $1,000 raised by each store. Thirty participating vendors make up a large part of the final donation as well.

One vendor, Milk-Bone in conjunction with Wal-Mart, will also be sponsoring a service dog for GKTW Kids Club member Jessica Fleury. Jessica was diagnosed with Spina Bifida at birth and is wheelchair bound. Thanks to the Milk-Bone Canine Heroes program, she will now have a fulltime companion with her. All expenses will be covered for the Fleury family, including veterinary needs for life. A presentation will be made at 8:00 a.m. on May 24.

GKTW representatives along with Wal-Mart associates and corporate vendors will play Orange Lake's spectacular "Legends" course; all fees and facilities are being donated by Orange Lake Resort & Country Club. The festivities will culminate with a check presentation on the evening of May 24, revealing the final amount raised for the event.

Country music star Daniel Lee Martin will be on the course both days to help commemorate the occasion. Jacksonville Jaguars players and cheerleaders are also scheduled to attend.
