June 23 (Bloomberg) -- Johan Leven, co-head of mergers and acquisitions for Asia at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. in Hong Kong, will leave after almost 20 years with the New York-based bank.

Leven, 43, will depart in September, said Goldman Sachs spokeswoman Connie Ling. He plans to pursue other business interests including an Internet education venture in Taiwan, said a person with direct knowledge of the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Leven joined Goldman in 1990 in London and moved to Australia in 1999. In 2001, he came to Hong Kong where he held positions including chief operating officer for Asia, head of corporate finance and head of mergers and acquisitions in the region.

He became a managing director in 2000 and a partner in 2004.
