May 29 (Bloomberg) -- Total SA's Joslyn mine in Canada will be delayed until 2014 because regulatory hearings on its environmental impact will begin later than expected, the Globe & Mail reported, citing the head of the company's local unit.
The project had been planned to come on-stream in 2013, Total's Michael Borrell was quoted as saying. The company will lose a winter of construction, including work such as ditching and drainage, because of the delay to the inquiry, he said, according to the newspaper.
The hearings won't begin until the end of the year, instead of during the first half, the report said.
The cost of the project, located in northern Alberta, will also probably be higher than the forecast price tag of as much as $9 billion, the newspaper reported.
