Aug. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Ltd.'s Xperia X1 mobile phone, the model intended to compete with Apple Inc.'s iPhone, may not be sold before Christmas, Dagens Nyheter reported.

The Windows 6.1 operating system does not work as planned on the handsets, DN said, citing a spokesman for Sony Ericsson it didn't identify. Xperia will be introduced as planned during the fourth quarter, the Stockholm-based newspaper quoted Merran Wrigley, a spokesman for Sony Ericsson, as saying.

Sony Ericsson, a joint venture between Ericsson AB and Sony Corp. of Japan, is the smallest of the world's top five mobile- phone makers.
