July 15 (Bloomberg) -- Google Inc., owner of the most- visited Internet search engine, closed a center in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad yesterday and today, after one of its contract workers tested positive for the swine-flu virus.
“He has been hospitalized and is under full medical care,” the Mountain View, California-based company said in an e-mailed statement. “As a precautionary measure, we have closed the concerned office in Hyderabad for two days, 14th and 15th July, and are taking all necessary steps, including sanitizing of common areas, to protect our employees.”
Paroma Roy Chowdhury, a New Delhi-based spokeswoman for Google, declined to give details on the number of employees at the center, which will reopen tomorrow. The company’s workforce in India is among the largest outside the U.S., she said.
The number of people confirmed as having been infected by the H1N1 swine flu strain of influenza in India was 129 as of July 6, according to the Geneva-based World Health Organization. The total number of cases worldwide was 94,512 as of that date.
