Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- BB&T Corp. may take over Colonial BancGroup Inc. as soon as today in the biggest U.S. bank failure of 2009, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.-backed takeover may come as soon as today, the person said.
