Nov. 4 (Bloomberg) -- An earthquake hit southern Iran, injuring 269 people, the state-run Fars news agency reported.
The temblor cut power in Bandar Abbas, a major port city on the Persian Gulf, according to Fars, though most of the network was restored. Two houses in the city were destroyed and 31 others were damaged, Fars said.
Qeshm Island, the largest in the Persian Gulf, was also hit, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency said, adding that the situation on the island has returned to normal.
The 4.9-magnitude quake occurred 9 kilometers (6 miles) southwest of Bandar Abbas at 2:56 a.m. local time today, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said on its Web site. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the agency.
