Texas Flooding Kills at Least 13; Rain May Let Up in Dallas

By Theresa Barry and Kelly Riddell

July 6 (Bloomberg) -- Rains that have inundated parts of Texas for weeks have killed at least 13 people and left five missing, according to Governor Rick Perry's office.

Southeastern Texas remains under flood warnings along parts of the Trinity River, according to the U.S. National Weather Service Web site. A flash-flood warning covers the Dallas-Fort Worth area east of Interstate 35 until tonight, said Jason Dunn, a meteorologist for the weather service.

Perry has issued disaster proclamations in 44 counties, including a swath of north-central Texas, and six have already qualified for federal aid, said Katherine Cesinger, the governor's spokeswoman.

Relief may be in sight for North Texas.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area should expect as much as three inches of rain before it subsides by the end of the weekend, Dunn said in a telephone interview from Fort Worth.

``I expect the rain will finally die off tomorrow evening,'' said Dunn. ``We are not going to see anymore widespread flooding, but thunderstorms will continue in more localized areas south and east of Dallas up until tomorrow afternoon.''
