March 18 (Bloomberg) -- Michelle Wie will be represented by a management team at IMG that’s headed by golf agent Clarke Jones, whose clients include Vijay Singh and Camilo Villegas.
The Cleveland-based agency, whose other golf clients include Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam, officially disclosed its representation of Wie in a news release today.
Wie, who earned playing privileges on the LPGA Tour for the first time this season, and her family agreed on the new representation last week, according to a person familiar with the pact. Wie split with the William Morris Agency on March 10, ending a four-year relationship.
“I’m very excited about this season, which represents a fresh new start for me,” Wie said in a statement. “There is such great talent and competition on the LPGA Tour and my focus is on building the foundation for a long and successful career, and of course, getting that first tournament win.”
IMG has represented Woods, the world’s top-ranked golfer, since he turned pro in 1996. It also handles Sorenstam, who retired last season after winning 10 women’s major titles, and LPGA Tour champions Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.
The Hawaii-born Wie is one of golf’s longest hitters and biggest attractions even though she has missed the 36-hole cut in eight men’s golf events she’s entered and hasn’t won a tournament since the 2003 U.S. Women’s Public Links championship.
She ranked fifth on Forbes magazine’s 2008 list of highest- paid female athletes, with $12 million worth of agreements with Nike Inc. and Sony Corp.

Wie finished seventh at the LPGA Tour’s annual qualifying tournament in December and placed second in the season-opening SBS Open in Kahuku, Hawaii. She ranks ninth on the LPGA’s money list with $108,332 and will next compete in the J Golf Phoenix LPGA International March 26-29 in Phoenix, her father, B.J. Wie, said.
Singh, the last player to hold golf’s No. 1 ranking before Woods regained the spot in 2005, has won 34 PGA Tour events, including three major titles. He is golf’s No. 6-ranked player, one spot ahead of Villegas, a two-time PGA Tour winner who captured last season’s Tour Championship in a playoff over Sergio Garcia.
