June 22 (Bloomberg) -- Tom Brokaw, who anchored the ``NBC Nightly News'' for more than 20 years, will replace the late Tim Russert as moderator of the network's Sunday morning talk show ``Meet the Press,'' NBC said.
Brokaw, 68, will host the show through the November presidential election, NBC News President Steve Capus said in a statement. He is scheduled to begin on June 29.
Russert, famous for his tough questioning of politicians, collapsed and died in his Washington newsroom on June 13 after a heart attack at the age of 58. NBC Universal is owned by General Electric Co.
Russert, who took over as anchor of the NBC show in 1991, turned it into the most-watched Sunday morning interview program in the U.S. and the most-quoted news program in the world, according to the network's Web site.
