Aug. 16 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush's daughter Jenna is engaged to marry Henry Hager, a graduate student and son of a prominent Virginia Republican, the press office of first lady Laura Bush announced.
Jenna, 25, and Hager, 29, of Richmond, Virginia, became engaged yesterday, according to the statement released in Crawford, Texas, where the president is on vacation. Hager proposed in Maine, Sally McDonough, press secretary to Laura Bush, said in a telephone interview. No date for the wedding has been set.
Jenna Bush and Hager have been dating for at least two years, according to reports in the Style Weekly newspaper in Richmond.
Hager interned for White House political adviser Karl Rove from 2004-2006. Hager's father, former Virginia Lieutenant Governor John H. Hager, served in Bush's Department of Education and is now chairman of Virginia's Republican Party.
Jenna Bush is a 2004 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in English. Before becoming an intern with the United Nations Children's Fund, she was an elementary school teacher in Washington for about 18 months.
Her fiance, a 2000 graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is a student at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business in Charlottesville. He returns there at the end of this month to start his second and final year.
Laura and Jenna Bush have written a children's book to be published in early 2008 in English and Spanish by News Corp.'s HarperCollins Publishers. The book depicts a boy in school who learns to enjoy books.
Jenna Bush also has written a non-fiction book, ``Ana's Story,'' about a 17-year-old single mother living in Panama with HIV. It will be published by HarperCollins on Sept. 28.
