Dior `Deeply Sorry' for Sharon Stone's Tibet Comments, FT Says

By Sarah Shannon

May 29 (Bloomberg) -- Christian Dior SA has moved to head off a backlash by Chinese consumers after actress Sharon Stone, who models for the luxury-goods group, implied the Sichuan earthquake may have been ``karma'' for China's policies on Tibet, the Financial Times reported.

Christian Dior said in a statement issued by the head office of its Chinese operations that company officials ``absolutely disagree'' with Stone's comments and are ``deeply sorry'' about them, the FT reported. Dior officials at the company's Paris headquarters declined to comment, the newspaper said.

Dior has 68 outlets in China, the FT said.

Stone, in a recording of her comments on YouTube, said she realized she should be more compassionate to quake victims after Tibetan groups distributed a document appealing for people to be helpful.
