‘Large’ Explosion Reported on U.K. Trading Estate (Update1)

By Brian Lysaght and Chris Bourke

Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. police and fire services went to the Slough Trading Estate, a business park west of London, following a “large” explosion.

Forty firefighters tackled the subsequent fire, Ellie Gray, spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said in a telephone interview. The fire, which started around 10 a.m. today local time in external machinery attached to a manufacturing plant measuring 10 meters (33 feet) by 80 meters, was put out, Gray said at 11.45 a.m.

There are no reports of injuries, a Thames Valley Police spokesman said. He said there will be an investigation into the cause of the fire, which isn’t believed to be suspicious.

The explosion occurred at the headquarters of Duco International, a maker of printing products, said a spokeswoman for Segro Plc, the owner of Slough Trading Estate.

Segro’s shares fell 8 pence, or 3.6 percent, to 213.5 pence at 11:000 a.m. in London trading.
