April 3 (Bloomberg) -- Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will increase its annual production capacity for its i MiEV electric car to 20,000 units by fiscal 2011, double its initial plan, Nikkei English News said, without citing anyone.

To meet the production increase, a lithium-ion battery venture between Mitsubishi Motors, Mitsubishi Corp. and GS Yuasa Corp. will add a second production line at its Shiga prefecture plant by 2010, the report said.

The 3 billion yen ($30 million) expansion will double battery output to 5,000 units a year, the report said.
