Jan. 14 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Supreme Court refused to revive a $25.1 million award won by Japanese glassmaker Asahi Glass Co. in a patent suit against rival Cardinal IG Co.
The high court, without comment, rejected Asahi's appeal as part of a list of orders released today in Washington. The justices let stand a federal appeals court ruling that overturned the award.
A jury awarded the damages in 2005 after a judge concluded that Cardinal infringed an Asahi patent. The patent covered window coatings that reflect heat and reduce the cost of heating in winter and air conditioning in summer.
In March the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that much or all of the award was based on an overly broad reading of the patent.
The case is AFG Industries v. Cardinal IG, 07-493.
