Funai Shares Rise After Company Wins Patent Ruling in US

By Hiroshi Suzuki

Nov. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Funai Electric Co., maker of electronics under the Sylvania and Emerson brands, rose to the highest in more than a month after the company won a U.S. trade ruling in its bid to block imports made by television manufacturers including Vizio Inc.

Funai gained 3.3 percent to 1,556 yen as of 9:26 a.m. on the Osaka Securities Exchange, the highest since Oct. 15. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average increased 0.4 percent.

A U.S. International Trade Commission judge on Nov. 17 found that digital televisions made by closely held Vizio and other companies infringe a Funai patent. He has yet to make a recommendation on Funai's request to ban imports of the TVs, and his decision must be considered by the full six-member commission.
