England's Lampard, Gerrard Ruled Out of Squad to Face Germany

By James Cone

Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- England coach Fabio Capello today lost two more of his regular starting lineup for the exhibition soccer match against Germany on Nov. 19 after Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were ruled out.

Chelsea's Lampard has a rib injury, while Liverpool's Gerrard has a groin problem, the Football Association said on its Web site. Captain John Terry, a doubt with a foot injury, completed a full training session and is expected to be fit.

Capello was already without Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney, and Chelsea's Ashley Cole and Joe Cole. Former captain David Beckham, seeking to tie Bobby Moore's record of 108 caps by an outfield player, was omitted because of a lack of recent matches.

Fulham's Jimmy Bullard and West Ham's Scott Parker were called up to boost Capello's central midfield options for the match in Berlin. Gareth Barry and Michael Carrick are also in the squad.

Bullard, 30, has yet to make his debut, though was included in the squad for World Cup qualifying matches against Andorra and Croatia in September. The 28-year-old Parker made the last of his three appearances against Croatia in October 2006.

They join Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson in being added to the original 23-man group. He came in yesterday after Manchester City's Joe Hart limped out of his team's 2-2 draw at Hull City.

Gerrard, 28, who got his first England goal in a 5-1 win against Germany in September 2001, is expected to be out for seven to 10 days, his club said yesterday. Capello ordered him to report for international duty and be assessed by the F.A.'s own medical staff, the Sun reported today.
