Ranbaxy Gets U.S. Approval for Generic of Johnson's Risperdal

March 4 (Bloomberg) -- Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., India's biggest drugmaker, received approval to sell its copy of Johnson & Johnson's schizophrenia medicine Risperdal in the U.S.

The company received Food & Drug Administration approval for multiple strength tablets of risperidone, or generic Risperdal, the regulator said on its Web site.

J&J reported revenue of $2.2 billion from oral Risperdal in the U.S. last year, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Risperdal is New Brunswick, New Jersey- based Johnson's best-selling prescription drug.
