May 18 (Bloomberg) -- International pressure is growing on Myanmar's military rulers to increase their use of international aid in the wake of Cyclone Nargis, the New York Times reported.
Foreign ministers from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian nations will hold an emergency meeting in Singapore tomorrow to receive Myanmar's account of the disaster and to discuss its refusal to allow foreign relief experts into the country, the newspaper said.
The group's effectiveness may be weakened by its code of not interfering in member states' internal affairs, the Times said.
John Holmes, the United Nations' under-secretary general for humanitarian affairs, is due in Yangon today. While he has talks scheduled with top members of the government, he is unlikely to meet with Myanmar's leader, Senior General Than Shwe, the newspaper reported, citing diplomats in Yangon it didn't identify.
