Les Echos Reporters Strike as Editor Moves to Rival La Tribune

By Alan Katz

Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) -- The French daily Les Echos didn't appear today after reporters at the newspaper voted to hold a one-day strike over the jump by editor Erik Izraelewicz to the rival La Tribune newspaper.

The strike was called because of reporters worries over Izraelewicz's departure, Les Echos said on its Web site.

Izraelewicz told reporters at Les Echos that he was leaving because of interference by Nicolas Beytout, according to the French daily le Figaro today.

Beytout, the former editor of Les Echos, then of Le Figaro, was brought in to oversee the media operations of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA after the Paris-based luxury goods maker took over Les Echos in December. LVMH simultaneously agreed to sell La Tribune to French businessman Alain Weill.
