Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Beijing Capital International Airport canceled about 70 flights today, China Central Television reported, stranding thousands of passengers as the city was hit by a second snowstorm this month.
Flights to cities including Kunming, Xi’an, Changchun, Chongqing and Guangzhou were canceled, CCTV reported. More than 100 flights were delayed, according to the report.
The airport operator has added staff and machinery to remove snow and ice on the ground and aircraft, CCTV said. A white board in Terminal 3 listed 20 canceled flights. The stranded passengers crowded around airline check-in counters at China’s busiest airport included Xu Jiamin, a 24-year-old computer engineer whose flight to Xi’an was canceled today.
“In situations like this, what can you do?” he said. “I’ll just wait for the next flight.”
Snowfalls are forecast for provinces in northern China including Hebei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia in the coming three days, the China Meteorological Administration said on its Web site today.
China also closed four main highways because of the snowfalls in the north, CCTV said, citing the Ministry of Transport’s Emergency Office.
Snowfalls of more than 10 centimeters have been recorded today in Taiyuan and Datong cities in Shanxi, CCTV reported.
