March 19 (Bloomberg) -- Tiger Woods didn't buy a $65 million waterfront compound in Southampton, New York, as the New York Post reported on Tuesday, the real estate broker who handled the sale said yesterday.
The estate, almost six acres on oceanfront Gin Lane, was sold to a buyer who wishes to remain anonymous, said Beate V. Moore, senior vice president of Sotheby's International Realty in Bridgehampton, New York. That buyer wasn't Woods, as the Post reported on its front page, Moore said.
``Tiger Woods has never seen the property,'' Moore said in a phone interview. ``Tiger Woods is not the buyer.''
Mark Steinberg, Woods's agent, confirmed in an e-mail message that Woods isn't the buyer.
``We stand by our story,'' Col Allan, the Post's editor-in- chief, said yesterday in a statement issued by his publicist, Rubenstein Associates, Inc.
The estate includes a 13,200-square-foot (1,226 square meters) Colonial Revival main residence with six bedrooms, a 7,500-square-foot guest house with three bedrooms, a pool and spa, tennis courts and staff quarters. The property includes 420 feet of oceanfront.
Neighbors on Gin Lane are real estate developer Alfred Taubman, New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger and fashion designer Vera Wang, while radio showman Howard Stern lives nearby, said Janet Hummel of Town & Country Real Estate in Bridgehampton.
``It's probably one of the prettiest houses we have seen in a while,'' Hummel said. ``It wasn't on the market that long, since December. The price was definitely worth it.''
`By The Sea'
The seller is 1776 Investment Corp. LLC, according to Hummel. The current resident of the estate, called ``By the Sea,'' is Gerhard Andlinger, chairman and chief executive officer of Tarrytown, New York-based Andlinger & Co, the Post said.
Andlinger, the former CEO of NetOptix Corp., bought the house in 2003 for $23 million from Martin Richards, the Academy Award-winning producer of ``Chicago,'' according to public records.
Woods, 32, won his sixth straight tournament on Sunday, the 64th of his career. That ties him for third place all-time with Ben Hogan. The only golfers with more career PGA wins are Sam Snead, with 82, and Jack Nicklaus, with 73.
He has won $3.3 million in three tour events this year.
