Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Gets First Acting Job in Woody Allen Movie

By Helene Fouquet

Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) -- France’s first lady, the model- turned-singer Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, agreed to appear in Woody Allen’s next film, according to an interview on Canal Plus television yesterday.

“He offered me a role in his next movie,” Bruni-Sarkozy said in the interview. “I don’t know for what character, but I said yes. I’m not an actress at all,” she said. “Maybe I will be terrible. But, in my life, I cannot let such a chance go.”

Bruni-Sarkozy said she had agreed to appear in Allen’s movie at a meeting they had this year. The U.S. filmmaker first met the presidential couple in June at the Elysee Palace, according to President Nicolas Sarkozy’s official Facebook Internet site. She said Allen’s request came at another meeting.

Bruni-Sarkozy, 41, has been the French leader’s wife since February 2008. The national media has repeatedly written about her influence over him. Asked about this in the Canal Plus interview, she said: “He does everything he wants by himself. He’s a big boy!”

The First Lady has accompanied Sarkozy on several official trips abroad, including to New York, Pittsburgh, London and Tunisia. She was named last year as ambassador for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She also set up her own foundation that will support education and help fight HIV-Aids.

Bruni-Sarkozy has released three music CDs, including one since she married Sarkozy. She has performed several times since their wedding, mainly abroad.
