Pittsburgh Shooter Had ‘Grudge’ Against Women, Newspaper Says

By Chris Dolmetsch

Aug. 5 (Bloomberg) -- A gunman who killed three people and wounded nine at a Pittsburgh-area gym before killing himself last night was identified as a 48-year-old member with a “grudge” against women, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported, citing police and unidentified investigators.

George Sodini walked into a dance class at the LA Fitness gym in Collier, about 6 miles (9.7 kilometers) southeast of Pittsburgh, at about 8 p.m. local time, turned out the lights and starting shooting, the newspaper said, citing police. He fired about 50 shots at a group of about 20 women in the room before killing himself.

Sodini left a note in his gym bag indicating he expected to die, the newspaper said, citing Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt, who didn’t release the note’s contents. Sodini appears to have hated women and had visited the gym earlier in the day, the newspaper said, citing unidentified investigators.

Sodini, of Scott Township, about 2 miles from the gym, posted comments on his blog before the shooting indicating he hadn’t been able to “achieve and acquire” what he desired in his relationships and “many other areas,” the newspaper said.
