April 5 (Bloomberg) -- Chile's constitutional court confirmed its ruling to ban the ``morning-after'' emergency contraceptive pill from the nation's public-health system, La Tercera reported.
The court ruled in favor of a request filed by 36 opposition parliamentarians to prohibit distribution of the emergency contraception at state medical centers, the Santiago- based newspaper reported today. Distribution throughout the public-health system had been favored by the government of President Michelle Bachelet.
The pill will be available only at pharmacies with a doctor's prescription, La Tercera reported.
``We have a pill for women with money, and we don't have a pill for women without money,'' the newspaper cited government spokesman Francisco Vidal as saying after the ruling was issued.
