Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Luis Fabiano scored a goal in each half as Brazil beat Chile 3-0 to go second in South American qualifying for the 2010 soccer World Cup.
Robinho, who last week joined Manchester City for a U.K.- record 42 million euros ($60.5 million), added the other goal last night in Santiago as record five-time world champion Brazil moved to 12 points.
Paraguay, seeking its fourth straight World Cup berth, heads the 10-team standings with 14 points following its 1-1 draw at Argentina two days ago. Third-place Argentina also has 12 points, one more than Uruguay. The top four after 18 home- and-away matches advance to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Luis Fabiano ended Brazil's three-match goalless streak in the 21st minute when he headed in a free kick by Ronaldinho, who missed a first-half penalty. Robinho doubled Brazil's lead just before halftime with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Both teams were reduced to 10 men in the second half. Brazil's Kleber was given his second yellow card and Chile midfielder Jorge Valdivia was red-carded for a tackle on Luis Fabiano, who got Brazil's third goal in the 83rd minute.
Paraguay opens the eighth round of matches against Venezuela tomorrow. Argentina visits Peru, Brazil hosts Bolivia, Uruguay plays Ecuador and Colombia travels to Chile the following day.
