Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Chile would extradite former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori to Peru within 24 hours if ordered to do so by the Supreme Court, La Tercera reported, without saying how it obtained the information.
Supreme Court judges may have already voted to accept Peru's petition to extradite Fujimori to stand trial on alleged human rights violations, the Santiago-based newspaper reported today.
Fujimori's lawyers are preparing for a possible ruling against them and would ask for a revision of any extradition ruling or seek an injunction against any deportation actions, the newspaper reported.
The son of Japanese immigrants, Fujimori fled to Japan in 2000 as his presidency collapsed. He retuned to South America in 2005 aiming to stage a political comeback and was arrested within hours of his arrival. Fujimori unsuccessfully ran for a seat in Japan's upper house in July 29 elections.
