TomTom to Offer Navigational Device for Fiat Cars (Update1)

By Marcel van de Hoef and Jurjen van de Pol

Aug. 31 (Bloomberg) -- TomTom NV, Europe’s largest maker of car-navigation devices, and Fiat Group Automobiles SpA developed a portable direction system that will be offered as an accessory to buyers of the Italian company’s cars.

The device will become available for “multiple” Fiat models, starting with the Fiat Punto Evo, Amsterdam-based TomTom said in an e-mailed statement today.

“It’s a portable navigation device that can be clicked onto the dashboard and also communicates with Fiat’s infotainment system,” TomTom spokesman Richard Piekaar said by telephone today. He declined to say when and where the product will be available or for how much it will sell.

TomTom also has a deal with Renault SA to provide navigation systems built into the dashboard of new cars. The company, which competes with the U.S.’s Garmin Ltd., may get “a few hundreds of millions of euros” in sales within two to three years from such deals with carmakers, Chief Executive Officer Harold Goddijn said in an interview on Aug. 25.
