Inter Moves Top as AC Milan, Barcelona Get First Wins of Season

Sept. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Inter Milan, aiming for a fourth straight Serie A soccer title, moved atop the standings after a 3-1 win yesterday at Torino. Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 2-0 in Spain's Primera Liga.

A Marco Pisano own goal put Inter ahead in the 24th minute, with fullback Maicon and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic also scoring to give manager Jose Mourinho a second straight league win. Elvis Abbruscato got Torino's goal.

Juventus, tied on seven points with Inter, beat Cagliari 1- 0, while AC Milan rallied after two league defeats to beat Lazio 4-1, preventing the Rome club taking top spot in the table.

Clarence Seedorf, Gianluca Zambrotta, Pato and Kaka scored for Milan, while Mauro Zarate got his fourth goal of the season for Lazio, which is one point behind the leaders.

In the weekend's other matches, Roma beat Reggina 3-0, Palermo defeated Genoa 2-1, Fiorentina beat Bologna 1-0, while the game between Udinese and Napoli was scoreless. Catania won 1-0 against Atalanta, while the matches between Sampdoria and Chievo, and Lecce and Siena, were 1-1 draws.

Four teams are on seven points atop Spain's Primera Liga, with Real and Atletico Madrid one point back. Goals from Ruben de la Red and Ruud van Nistelrooy helped Real to its first away win yesterday.

Barcelona secured its first win of the season with a 6-1 win at Sporting Gijon last night, including two late goals from Argentina playmaker Lionel Messi.

First-place Valencia beat 10-man Osasuna with a late strike from Juan Mata, Almeria defeated Malaga 1-0, Villarreal won 2-1 at Numancia, and two days ago Espanyol drew 1-1 against Getafe. Atletico beat Recreativo 4-0.

In other games, Athletic Bilbao defeated Valladolid 2-0, Deportivo La Coruna drew 0-0 against Real Mallorca, and Sevilla tied city rival Real Betis 0-0.

Schalke Top

In Germany, Schalke tops the Bundesliga following a 1-0 win two days ago against Eintracht Frankfurt, while Hoffenheim, Stuttgart and Hamburg are one point behind.

Hoffenheim yesterday beat Borussia Dortmund 4-1, Stuttgart defeated Karlsruhe 3-1, while Hamburg lost 3-0 at Wolfsburg. Defending champion Bayern Munich is three points off the lead after suffering a 5-2 home defeat to Werder Bremen two days ago.

Jon Dahl Tomasson scored both Feyenoord's goals as it twice rallied to draw 2-2 at home against Ajax in the Dutch league, while Heerenveen beat NEC Nijmegen 2-1 to join leader Groningen on seven points from three matches. Groningen drew 1-1 at Heracles two days ago, while defending champion PSV Eindhoven lost 1-0 to AZ Alkmaar.
