Nov. 9 (Bloomberg) -- The pound extended gains against the dollar, climbing to the highest level since Aug. 7.

The British currency advanced 0.9 percent to $1.6765, before trading at $1.6759 as of 7:31 a.m. in London. The pound strengthened 0.2 percent to 89.23 pence per euro.
