Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will meet with provincial premiers on Jan. 11 in Ottawa, as provinces and companies urge the federal government to do more to mitigate the effects of a high Canadian dollar.
The meeting ``is part of the ongoing discussions'' the prime minister has with his provincial counterparts, Harper's office said today in an e-mailed statement without providing further details.
Quebec Premier Jean Charest and other provincial leaders in November started calling for a so-called first ministers' conference to discuss economic issues such as the currency's appreciation beyond parity with the U.S. dollar.
