Aug. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Nexen Inc., the Canadian producer that owns fields in the Gulf of Mexico, said it began removing some workers from oil and gas platforms as Tropical Storm Gustav may threaten the region.
``We're removing non-essential personnel, though there's no impact on production,'' said Carla Yuill, a spokeswoman for the Calgary-based company.
Gustav, packing sustained winds of almost 60 miles (95 kilometers) per hour, was about 110 miles west of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, and 125 miles southeast of Guantanamo, Cuba, just before 11 a.m. Miami time, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an advisory.
The storm, downgraded from a hurricane overnight as it crossed Haiti, may regain strength as it moves over the Caribbean before heading into the Gulf by the weekend, forecasters said.
