Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) -- The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is expected to approve today a broadcast license for news service Al Jazeera English, the Toronto Star reported.
The country’s broadcasting regulator will announce its decision at 11 a.m., the newspaper said.
The regulator asked for public comments in February on the application from Al Jazeera, and most comments supported the proposal, the Star said. Tony Burman, the managing editor of Al Jazeera English, is a former senior editor of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., the paper said.
Al Jazeera English, based in Doha, Qatar, was created in 2006 to increase coverage of developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and reaches 140 million households around the world, the Star reported.
