Bank of Montreal, Canadian Oil Sands: Canadian Equity Preview

Oct. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of the following companies may have unusual moves in Canadian trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses.

The Standard & Poor’s/TSX Composite Index rose for the first time in three days yesterday, gaining 119.24 points, or 1 percent, to 11,532.78.

Air Canada (AC/B CN): Canada’s largest airline had its rating upgraded to “neutral” from “sell” by analyst Fadi Chamoun of UBS AG, who said an economic recovery should lead to more demand for passenger travel over the next two years.

Bank of Montreal (BMO CN): Citigroup Inc., the third- largest bank in North America, reported a third-quarter loss that, excluding certain items, was 20 percent less than the average estimate of analysts in a Bloomberg survey. Bank of Montreal, the eighth-biggest bank on the continent, gained C$2.29 billion ($2.23 billion) in revenue in the U.S. last year.

Canadian Oil Sands Trust (COS-U CN): The part-owner of the Syncrude oil-sands project had its rating reduced to “neutral” from “outperform” by analyst Brian Dutton of Credit Suisse Group AG. Dutton based his downgrade on lower price estimates for natural gas and the stock’s recent price rise. Company units are up 21 percent since Oct. 2.

Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (IVN CN): The developer of the Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold project in Mongolia holds a conference call to update investors and analysts on its plans. The Mongolian government signed an agreement last week with the company and its partner, Rio Tinto Group, to allow the exploitation of the resource containing an estimated 78.9 billion pounds of copper and 45.2 million ounces of gold.

Keystone North America Inc. (KNA CN): The fifth-largest funeral home operator in North America agreed to support a takeover bid from Service Corporation International. SCI would pay C$8, a 24 percent premium over yesterday’s closing price.
