Two Ontario Auto Parts Makers Cut 2,250 Jobs, Star Reports

By Sean B. Pasternak

July 3 (Bloomberg) -- Two auto parts manufacturers cut a combined 2,250 jobs in Ontario this week as demand from carmakers such as General Motors Corp. slumps, the Toronto Star reported.

Progressive Moulded Products Ltd., based in Vaughan, Ontario, closed 11 plants in the Toronto area in the last two days, cutting about 2,000 jobs. And Polywheels Manufacturing Ltd. cut 250 jobs when it closed its Oakville plant this week, the newspaper said.

Both companies manufactured plastic parts for General Motors trucks, the Star said. Progressive Moulded, controlled by buyout firm Thomas H. Lee Partners LP, filed for bankruptcy last month.
