Egypt Plans DNA Tests on King Tut Fetuses to Determine Parents

By Mahmoud Kassem

Aug. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Egypt's government plans to conduct DNA tests on two mummified fetuses found in Tutankhamen's tomb to see if they are related to the monarch.

Experts believe Tutankhamen fathered the stillborn babies and the tests should prove that and help determine the identity of the mother or mothers, the Cairo-based Supreme Council of Antiquities said in a faxed statement today.

The council examined King Tut with a CAT scan in 2005, after the Cairo Museum decided to use the technology on all its mummies. The tomb was discovered on the West Bank of the Nile in the ancient city of Luxor in 1922.
