Oct. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Ski jumps, ice rinks and other venues for Vancouver's 2010 Olympics will be completed before the opening of the Beijing games in August, said John Furlong, chief executive officer of Vancouver's organizing committee.
Organizers also are on target to build the winter games venues within a budget of C$580 million ($595 million) provided by the government of Canada and the province of British Columbia, Furlong said today.
``We will be the first organizing committee in Olympic history to be able to say that when the opening ceremonies of the games that preceded it take place, our field of play facilities for our games will be done completely,'' he said in a speech to the Vancouver Board of Trade.
Organizers previously said they would dip into a C$55 million contingency fund to ensure that venues were built on time. The Vancouver committee plans to release its annual report and audited financial statements on Oct. 19, Furlong said today.
The games will run Feb. 12 to 28, 2010, at locations within Greater Vancouver and near the resort town of Whistler, British Columbia, a 90-minute drive north of the city. The Paralympic Winter Games will follow from March 12 to 21.
Beijing's Olympics begin Aug. 8.
