USDA May Update Crop Acreage Reports After Midwest Flooding
By Alan Bjerga
June 18 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture may do additional farmer surveys of crop plantings after its June 30 acreage report to reflect flood damage in the Midwest, spokeswoman Ellen Dougherty said.
The USDA already cut its yield forecast for corn 3.2 percent to 148.9 bushels per acre on June 10 after heavy rains inundated fields in some areas. The report later this month, which may show farmers switching corn acres to soybeans because of wet weather, is based on surveys taken during the first two weeks of June.
