World Cup Bids for 2018, 2022 Are Received From 11 Candidates

March 17 (Bloomberg) -- Eleven candidates representing 13 countries have submitted bids to host soccer’s World Cup in 2018 or 2022.
Applications for both tournaments were received by yesterday’s deadline from Australia, England, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Russia and the U.S., along with joint bids from Belgium- Netherlands and Spain-Portugal, soccer governing body FIFA said on its Web site.
Qatar and South Korea each applied to host only the 2022 championship. FIFA will chose the sites of both tournaments in December 2010.
