Jan. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre is critical of Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman and third baseman Alex Rodriguez in a book that is scheduled to be released next month, the New York Daily News said.
In “The Yankee Years,” written by Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci and scheduled for release Feb. 3, Torre describes Cashman as a “less-than-supportive ally who betrays him on several fronts” during his final season with the team, the newspaper said, citing an unidentified person familiar with the book.
Torre, who became manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, also says in the book that Rodriguez, who was often referred to by teammates as “A-Fraud” rather than his “A- Rod” moniker, was obsessed by a rivalry with teammate Derek Jeter.
Torre left the Yankees in October 2007 after 12 seasons that included four World Series titles and playoff appearances every year. He refused a new contract offer that cut his base salary and instead provided incentives for playoff-series victories, calling the offer an “insult.”
