March 28 (Bloomberg) -- George Steinbrenner's daughter Jennifer is divorcing Steve Swindal, whom the New York Yankees owner two years ago named his successor.
The couple has been married for 23 years. Swindal has been a general partner with the Yankees since 1998 and is chairman of Yankees Global Enterprises LLC.
``George Steinbrenner is the boss and will remain the boss. He has no plans to retire,'' said Yankees spokesman Howard Rubenstein, who announced the divorce in a statement. ``The Steinbrenner family will run the Yankees.''
Steinbrenner, 76, has said that Swindal, 52, will take over as head of the Yankees after he retires. Swindal had taken a more prominent role with the organization over the last two years, stepping in for his father-in-law at public events as the owner's health declined.
Swindal was arrested last month in Tampa on suspicion of driving under the influence and apologized for the distraction.
Steinbrenner bought the Yankees in 1973 and built it into the most valuable Major League Baseball franchise worth $1.03 billion, according to Forbes. His two sons, Hal and Hank, are executives with the team, who along with Swindal, oversee business and baseball operations.
His daughter Jessica and Hank run Kinsman Stable, a horse farm in Ocala, Florida.
Jennifer, 47, who has a business degree from the University of North Carolina, and Swindal have two children.
