Manny Ramirez Exercises $20 Million Option, Returns to Dodgers

By Nancy Kercheval

Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez exercised a $20 million option to return to the Major League Baseball team in 2010, agent Scott Boras told MLB.com.

Ramirez, 37, had until Nov. 10 to make a decision to stay with the Dodgers or opt out of his contract, MLB.com said.

Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti said he hoped to see Ramirez regain the same confidence he exhibited before he was suspended for 50 games last season for violating drug policies, MLB.com said.

“In the second half, to say someone else’s confidence isn’t the same is really unfair, but I didn’t see the same confidence in his approach when he returned that I saw the last two months of last year and the first five weeks of this year,” Colletti said, according to MLB.com.

Ramirez hit .290 with 19 home runs and 63 runs batted in during 104 regular season games.

In the National League division series against St. Louis, Ramirez batted .308 with no homers and two RBI. Against Philadelphia in the NL championship series, he hit .263 with one homer and two RBI.
