Paul Tagliabue, Ex-NFL Commissioner, Rejoins Covington Law Firm

By Lindsay Fortado

Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Former National Football League Commissioner Paul Tagliabue rejoined the Washington law firm Covington & Burling, where he was a partner prior to his NFL stint.

Tagliabue, 67, returns as a senior of counsel, a salaried attorney position, in the firm's Washington and New York offices. He will advise clients in Covington's communications and media, technology and international groups, the firm said in a statement today. Tagliabue will also work as a business adviser to the NFL.

``His judgment and decades of business and legal experience will be very valuable to many of our clients,'' said Tim Hester, chair-elect of Covington's management committee.

Covington & Burling represents Major League Baseball, Nascar, the National Basketball Association, the NFL, the National Hockey League and the United States Tennis Association, according to the firm's Web site.

Tagliabue served as NFL commissioner from 1989 to 2006, overseeing the league's expansion from 28 to 32 teams. He is a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
