Dec. 2 (Bloomberg) -- The Philadelphia Phillies will share $18.4 million for winning the World Series, about 2.6 percent less than the bonus given to the 2007 champion Boston Red Sox.
Members of the Phillies will get $351,504.48 each for defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in Major League Baseball’s championship round in October.
Philadelphia players awarded 45 full shares, partial shares totaling just over seven full payments, and 15 cash bonuses. Club employees such as trainers and scouts are often recipients of shares in addition to players.
Boston players split $18.9 million for winning last year’s World Series over the Colorado Rockies. Less money was generated from this year’s postseason because, without the Rockies in the playoffs, the seating capacity was lower. The Rockies’ Coors Field in Denver seats 50,449 fans.
Players divide ticket revenue from the first four games of the World Series and American and National League Championship Series, and from the first three games of the first round of the playoffs. The total pool of about $51 million will be shared among the eight playoff teams and the four second-place clubs that missed the postseason.
Tampa Bay players will get $12.3 million for advancing to the World Series.
The Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers will receive $6.1 million each for losing in the American and National League Championship Series.
The Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels and Milwaukee Brewers, who lost in the first round of the playoffs, will each get $1.5 million.
The Arizona Diamondbacks, Minnesota Twins, New York Mets and Texas Rangers will get $512,000 for finishing in second place in their divisions.
