Durant Wins PGA Tour's Funai Classic for First Title in 5 Years

By Mason Levinson

Oct. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Joe Durant shot a 7-under-par 65 to win the Funai Classic for his first PGA Tour victory in five years.

Durant, 42, shot a bogey-free round to finish at 25-under 263 at Walt Disney World Resort's Magnolia course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, four strokes better than runners-up Troy Matteson and Frank Lickliter.

Durant, who earned $828,000 for the win, has four career Tour victories. He won in 2001 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and Genuity Championship, as well as the Motorola Western Open in 1998.

Matteson, a Tour rookie, won the Frys.com Open last week for his first victory.

Lickliter had the low round of the day with a 10-under 62.

Justin Rose, whose opening-round 60 missed tying the U.S. PGA Tour event record by one stroke, finished in fourth place at 20-under.

Vijay Singh, the fifth-ranked golfer in the world, tied for fifth at 19-under. He was the highest ranked golfer at the event.
