Dec. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Kobe Bryant had 27 points, nine rebounds and five assists as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Celtics 92-83, ending Boston’s franchise-record 19-game winning streak yesterday.
Pau Gasol added 20 points for Los Angeles, including seven in the final three minutes. Kevin Garnett scored 22 points and nine rebounds for the Celtics. It was the first game between the two teams since Boston defeated Los Angeles in last season’s National Basketball Association finals.
The Lakers’ win marked the 1,000th for coach Phil Jackson, the sixth NBA coach to reach that mark. The 63-year-old has a career record of 1,000-423 in more than 17 seasons with the Lakers and Chicago Bulls.
The two teams have met in the NBA finals 11 times, with Boston winning nine. The Celtics fell to 27-3 with the loss. The Lakers improved to 24-5.
In San Antonio, Roger Mason’s buzzer-beating three-pointer lifted the Spurs over the Phoenix Suns 91-90.
Tony Parker scored 27 points and Tim Duncan added 25 points and 17 rebounds as the Spurs won a fourth straight game. Amare Stoudemire had 25 points and 13 rebounds while Shaquille O’Neal added 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Suns.
In other NBA action, it was Orlando 88, New Orleans 68; Cleveland 93, Washington 89.
